Flipper’s Final Shift

Chicago Police Officer MIchael Flisk ET’s career ended on 11/26/2010 when he and the victim of a crime were brutally murdered by a known felon out on electronic monitoring. This car show is in Mike’s honor and in honor of all who serve. Mike, who was also known by the nickname Flipper, would be so proud that his car is being used in a quest to help his fellow officers.

Mike purchased his 70 Chevelle SS which was his pride and joy on 11/1/1980. He was only 16 years old when he purchased the car which was always garage kept and with us for his entire life. It was always Mike’s intention to restore his Chevelle himself. His care for that car was honestly like nothing I had ever experienced. His reminding our four children constantly that they were not to touch or approach the vehicle is a running joke now that we completed his project. Everyone is touching the car now.

When covid started I called our good family friend Johnny Patton and told him it’s  time to get the car in and start the restoration.  He had worked in the past with Bump & Grind in Lemont and explained to me that this needed to be done before the parts for our car would be impossible to obtain due to COVID. So our car left for the first time in years while we all waited nervously. The restoration of a car can take years as few people know. Our car returned home with the help of so many in March of this year 2025. To see the completed project left many of us speechless. One man’s dream was completed with the help of so many. We are so grateful to all who participated in helping Mike’s dream come true. It is more than he could have ever imagined.

My Meeting Bank The Blue

Back in 2022, we had lost several officers to suicide. I had the opportunity to write a letter and also interview with Channel 9. My intention was to make officers aware of how much they would be missed if they chose the path of suicide. Although I know our loss was a different circumstance the result is the same I feel. The unimaginable loss of a loved one.  Shortly after I did my interview I came in contact with Kelly Krauchan. I was made aware of the organization Bank The Blue and its commitment to helping officers with mental health. I felt for the first time that I could make an impact in assisting our officers.   I am so proud to be part of such an amazing organization and hope this car show will assist in helping our officers in their fight to see tomorrow.
